“A really useful and insightful workshop on the art of communicating effectively. It’s easy to get into your own habits, this has been a great reminder of how to be a bit more thoughtful about your approach, to get better results. ”
Talking to External Partners and Collaborators:
Achieve your goals
Increasingly academic projects rely on talking ‘across boundaries’. These might be between disciplines, industries, or outside of the university. This is excellent for innovation, inclusion, and impact, but comes with its own set of communication pitfalls.
This session highlights the BIG issues which crop over and over again in cross context communication, things which cause misunderstandings, disengagement or even a breakdown in trust. We’ll explore, framing, the curse of knowledge, and cognitive load theory, discussing how these impact on projects, and what you can do about it.
The 2nd half will give you some specific ideas and structures to use. Structures to help you explain, convince, or persuade your audiences as well as looking at more collaborative approaches.
This session if for anyone who wants to make sure their external presentations go well or those who’d like greater understanding enabling cross boundary relationships to thrive.
What to expect sheets
We also have a ‘what to expect’ sheet for anyone who feels they would like to know a little more about how the session will run.
